Meet Gillian

My name is Gillian, and here are a few of the things I love to do outside of the classroom.

I discovered gelli printing during lockdown, thanks to an art school friend who couldn’t stop raving about it. With a background in printed textiles, I love the unpredictability of the process — nothing is ever quite the same twice, and that element of surprise is part of what makes it so exciting.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love to hoard beautiful bits and pieces! I’ve been collecting letters, stamps, papers and envelopes for years, always finding it difficult to throw away something that might one day become part of a piece of work.

And then there are maps — another great love of mine. Wherever possible, I try to incorporate found papers, maps and fragments of text into my work, adding layers of history and personal meaning to each piece.
